Food for Thought
For the week of July 5, 2020
(Questions and Scriptures for further study & discussion)
WHAT’S YOUR HIGHLIGHT?
Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything you heard for the first time or something that caught your attention, challenged or confused you?
WHAT’S YOUR STORY?
All of our family situations are unique. Write a word or phrase you would use to describe the home you grew up in when referring to the three needs in every home.
Affection
Protection
Invitation
DIGGING DEEPER
1. Read Psalms 144:15. As you reflect on the freedoms we have as a nation, in which freedom do you think we need more dependence rather than independence?
2. JJ asked “How many more nights will our country go to be weeping while believers in Jesus go to be sleeping?” Read Ezekiel 22:30. In what freedoms do you need to stand up for that you may be taking for granted?
The Freedom to Worship Jesus
The Freedom to Pray to Jesus
The Freedom to Have a Say in Government
The Freedom of Speech
The Freedom to Pursue Happiness
3. In Jefferson’s era, the term happiness carried a sense of divine blessing; the pursuit of happiness, then, was understood at that time to mean something more like “the pursuit of blessedness” than “the pursuit of good feelings.” How can the group pray for your right to pursue a godly life this week?
