Operation Christmas Child

It’s Operation Christmas Child season, and this year, STF’s Children’s Ministry is partnering with our Missions Ministry for this annual outreach project.

Operation Christmas Child is a great way to reach not just children, but communities around the world, with the Gospel. It’s more than just a Christmas charity. The shoe boxes are used as a platform to share the Gospel with kids. Inside each box is a pamphlet, “The Greatest Gift,” which clearly communicates the Gospel in the child’s own language. After that, children who attend the distribution event are invited back to go through “The Greatest Journey,” a 12-week discipleship program. Then, a graduation ceremony takes place, and children receive a New Testament in their own language.

Shoe boxes are now available at each STF campus. Instructions are included with the boxes, and you can also pick up information sheets at the Operations Christmas Child display at each campus. Please return all shoe boxes by Sunday, November 11.

This year, for the first time, South Tampa Fellowship is a designated drop-off location for Operation Christmas Child. Churches from throughout our community will be bringing their filled shoe boxes to STF’s DI Campus during National Collection Week, Monday, November 12 through Monday, November 19.

We need volunteers to help us receive and process all those shoeboxes during that week. For more information, please go to stfchurch.com/occregister. Volunteer training will be on Sunday, November 4, from 12:30-2 p.m., at the BP Campus. We will eat lunch in the Fellowship Hall, followed by a 30-45 minute training in Room B200.

There are many ways you can get involved. For instance:

  • Pray for the volunteers, missionaries and church leaders abroad, and for children and families who will be receiving shoe boxes.
  • Pack a shoe box! Select a gender and age group, then follow the instructions on how to pack a shoe box (see link above). You can also pack one online by going to the link above.
  • Pay $9, the cost of shipping a shoe box or $6, the cost of a child to go through the discipleship program, “The Greatest Journey,” or you can do both for just $15 per box! You can donate online (see link above) or by writing a check to South Tampa Fellowship and putting “Operation Christmas Child” in the memo line, or by specifying your donation on an offering envelope.
  • Participate in National Collection Week, Monday, November 12 through Monday, November 19, at our Davis Islands Campus. As a volunteer, you would help receive and count shoe boxes from area churches, pray with and for donors, and offer coffee with a smile.
